I am seriously obsessed with boots. Living in So Cal, where the weather is warm most of the year, I don’t get to wear them as much as I’d like…but when winter rolls around I pretty much ignore all my other shoes. Our coldest months tend to be January and February, so now is my time to make the most of it. Being short, I own a lot of ankle boots (or booties) that fit more like shoes and don’t cut my leg in an awkward place. I do struggle more with mid-calf styles. However, I absolutely LOVE over-the-knee boots. My obsession with OTK boots began several years back, when they first started trending really hard. I loved the badass vibe they evoked, but wasn’t so sure that they’d work for me given my height. Shopping online, I spotted a pair from Report that looked totally rock-and-roll (and way more expensive than they actually were), so I took the risk and ordered them. It was probably one of the best purchases I ever made, as I couldn’t love those boots more (pictured below). I even wore them when I competed on air for the title of Macy’s Next Style Star!
As it turns out, OTK boots work perfectly with my petite frame, as they actually fit over my knees. I think for a lot of taller women, they’re more likely to fall at the knee rather than over. Of course it also depends on the exact pair of boots you buy, as some will fit higher than others. That being said, this style of boot is super popular, but I think it can be intimidating for some. Whether you already own a pair, or maybe you’re on the fence, I wanted to showcase their versatility by styling them three ways. I chose a more current style, by Dolce Vita, so you can shop them if you desire. I don’t necessarily recommend black…I like the lighter colors too!
1. Style them for a date or girls’ night with a slouchy sweater dress and leopard clutch. Accent this look with a pendant necklace and bold lipstick. This is great combo for effortless cool, because the relaxed sweater dress silhouette balances the edginess of the boots.
2. Style them for a professional setting with slim black pants and a tailored blazer. Keep it professional with a chic satchel bag and classic stud earrings. This look wouldn’t fly in a conservative office, but could definitely work in a more relaxed or creative setting.
3. Style them for a casual weekend look with skinny jeans and a plaid shirt. Top off with round frame sunnies and a fringed bucket bag. This is probably my favorite look – it’s the perfect balance of classic and modern elements.
Honestly, I could go on, because there are so many ways to wear this silhouette. The key is simply to avoid covering them up. However you style them, let your boots do the talking! If I’ve managed to convince you, here are a few more of my top OTK picks available right now (and all on sale)!
