I’m approaching 6 months pregnant now and my belly has definitely started to grow. This is a moment I always dreaded as a worst fear. Every time anyone ever asked me about babies, I would think please no, my body just isn’t made for that…
I’m not just petite – I’m 5 feet tall with a 24 inch waist kind of petite. I couldn’t fathom a baby fitting anywhere in there, at least not comfortably. Someone would say baby and I’d imagine myself as a roly poly Oompa-Loompa looking pregnant woman. (It’s a given fact that taller women carry better – a long torso allows the baby more vertical space, so your belly doesn’t grow out as much.) That being said, I’ve been pretty firm about healthful eating and exercise the last few months, and I’ve managed to avoid putting on weight, minus the growing belly. Plussss I never knew it actually takes longer to show with your first baby, as the uterus won’t stretch as quickly/easily the first time around! I’m handling it better than I thought I would (so far) and I’m learning to dress for my new body. I usually favor waist emphasis with fit and flare silhouettes. Not so much now!! Anything tight around the waist would be horribly uncomfortable, and pretty much look ridiculous. At the same time I’m determined to avoid maternity clothes. I think they’d prove an awkward fit on my frame, and so far I’m making it work by sizing up instead. I spotted this adorable fringe dress (on sale) at Express, and went for a small instead of an extra small. With the stretchy fabric and all the ruching, it should fit for another month or two. Styled here with my beloved fringe booties and a faux-fur vest.
